Doin’ it for the gram… how to kill the social media game

Are you looking for tips on how to capture the spirit of your next vacation on social media? Want to share your adventures with family and friends through posts? Look no further! This post will provide you with the tools you need to take your feed to the next level.

General Social Media Tips

  • My first tip is to be kind to yourself
    • You are beautiful and your vacation’s success does not hinge on your social media posts. With that being said, social media can and should be fun!
  • Practice, practice, practice!
    • Have you ever taken what felt like 100 photos in a row and couldn’t find a single one you liked? Spend a little time in front of the mirror experimenting with poses and facial expressions. This will help you figure out what you DO like and get your body familiar with it.
    • Do you get camera shy? Does your face freeze up when a camera comes out? Pull your phone out and do a photo shoot! You don’t have to keep the photos. Just spending some time posing for the camera should help lessen your nerves.

Location and Clothes

  • Choose lesser known backdrops
    • Of course, you should still take those must-have photos! If you’re in Paris, you need to take a snap in front of the Eiffel Tower and in front of the Louvre. For the first image in a post, however, utilize a place people may not be familiar with. Get them to ask “where is that?!”
  • Pre-plan outfits based on the landscape
    • Visualize where you’ll be vacationing and pack some outfits that match the place’s vibe. For example, your outfits on a trip to Sicily will be completely different than outfits you’d wear in Iceland.
  • Consider a hat
    • I’ve always loved a statement hat, but for a long time I was too nervous to wear one. I finally made the plunge and bought this GiGi Pip hat. She’s gone all over with me and I can’t wait to take her on her next trip.

Capturing Your Photos

  • Take videos and candid photos
    • People often forget to take videos on vacation, but these short clips will be really helpful if you decide to make an Instagram Reel to remember your trip.
    • Candid photos are often some of my favorite photos from a trip! They capture you as you really are and can show the pure joy you’re experiencing on a trip.
  • Don’t be afraid to try a filter or presets
    • The era of #NoFilter is over! Experiment with transforming your photos by the sea with a moody vibe or your photos in the desert with a warm filter. There’s nothing wrong with using the tech available to you to enhance your pics.
  • I hate to see her go, but I love to watch her leave…
    • Change up your pose by looking away from the camera! I especially love to use this pose when you’re in front of a really cool landscape.
    • Bonus points if you’ve got that sultry over-the-shoulder smolder look down. I’m still working on that one…

Finally, don’t pay attention to the number of likes and comments! I can say this until I’m blue in the face and it probably won’t matter, but the number of likes and comments you get on a post do not reflect your worth, the success of your vacation, or the quality of your photos. Doin’ it for the gram should be about documenting your memories and sharing your experiences with family and friends.

I hope to see these tips hit your feed soon! Comment with what you’ll be trying.

Happy Travels!
